If you watched last nights Kirstie Allsopps Handmade Christmas last night (Channel 4, 8pm) you would have seen me on the wreath competition! It was filmed way back in October at Powderham Castle near Exeter. I had a lovely day and Raise the Roof production company made the day really fun.
Here is my finished wreath, I am donating it to Portsmouth Downs Syndrome, they will then raffle or auction it off to raise money for their charity.
I really enjoyed making and planning it, quite a few of my pompoms and crochet elements were made ahead of time due to time restrictions, but most of the making and construction was done on the day.
Peacocks are really big this year for Christmas, so my theme was based around peacock colours, greens, blues and rich purple. As I use a lot of natural elements to my work, there is also crochet mistletoe, hellebores and pinecones. All this mixed with pompoms, vintage buttons, mini baubles and that gorgeous peacock bird from Gisela Graham.
I try to shop local where possible, the yarn, buttons and trim were from my favourite shop Seeded and my favourite all time garden center for Christmas decs, so for baubles and beautiful birds Garsons is where you need to go.
If you haven’t already got or know about pompom makers, (possibly because you may have been living under a rock) you can also buy these from Seeded. Don’t forget to try some kinky pompoms!
Thank you for all your kind messages, I will try to reply to them all! All the wreaths were so different and although I didn’t win overall, to be picked from 1000’s of applicants to appear on the show already felt like winning.
